South Africa has the 8th highest suicide rate in the world. On average, 18 men commit suicide daily in south Africa. This according to Daryl Brown, a suicide survivor and member of the South African Depression and Anxiety Group.
He says there are over 230 serious suicide attempts per month in this country.
Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Brown says there is a lot of pressure put on South African men to be at their best as providers and head of families.
Sometimes it feels like you can't handle it...

Brown also spoke about his own experiences and why he felt that suicide was his only way out.
I just felt exhausted, I was tired of waiting for this day when everything would be OK when
I'd feel competent and it felt like that day was never going to come. I really didn't see any
way out except by suicide.
